Oldham Athletic
Relegated out of the football League. I had always despised them for beating us to the Football League Second Division on the last day on 1990-91 season. Even Bonzo said he was gutted not to go up as Champions since we were running away in the league for most of the season.

No love lost that the have gone down. Now they the first former Premier League team to drop into non-league since its creation in 1992. What a comedown!

The 0-6 was the last game for Parkes AND Alan Devonshire who came on as a sub
Horrible way to go out for two legends

Re: Oldham Athletic
Was it the 6-0 drubbing when we pelted their scoreboard with coins, smashing all the individual lightbulbs??? And then back at Upton Park before the league game, Oldham asked for it to be announced that their scoreboard was not coin operated and to please refrain from throwing coins at it?

Re: Oldham Athletic
Cholo, maybe Ricky from eastenders being an arsenal fan was only used to their pathetic supporters but seeing west ham in large numbers simply said " blimey they're Wellard " and it just got a bit confused?

Re: Oldham Athletic
Wasn't the 6-0 Parkes' last game? Pretty sure we signed Ludo just before but he either wasn't cleared to play or just not selected.

Alfs caught out by Iron Duke's niche knowledge of animals in British soap operas I see.

That's an interesting story. Especially as Wellard didn't appear in Eastenders until 1994.

Maybe he said Roly or his little Willie.

Re: Oldham Athletic
I watched that debacle against Oldham with Ricky from East Enders. He's Arsenal and was taking the piss saying Wellard could have beaten our lot.

I couldn't argue on that particular night.

Probably the best times for them when they had that plastic pitch.

Funny how Preston didn’t push on with that surface.

What do you prefer, grass or Astro Turf?

Re: Oldham Athletic
One good memory from Oldham - well, good in part.

Can't remember which year it was, but we were being escorted to the ground by mounted police, one of which was a proper pig, making his horse push us up against a fence.

Local magistrate was going past in her car, and she gave this bastard a right earful, and took down his number and had a word with his sergeant. The fucker behaved himself after that.

Obviously, I don't know what happened later, but hopefully the number taking wasn't just a gesture.

Hope the mighty tonbridge angels get them in the trophy next season and we dump them out 6-0 on our new plastic pitch

Another one Balto is Altrincham, I believe they missed out on promotion to the Professional League since they weren't voted in despite being Champions of the National league twice. It was said that some "brown envelopes" were passed over!

Virtually impossible for teams in the North West if you're not Manchester United, Manchester City or Liverpool

Southbank, that made me laugh.
It’s funny - with a few exceptions - how a whole region can go down the toilet in footballing terms.

Yup was at the St Valentines Night massacre… holy shit I still wake up with the shakes…

Went the year after (IIRC) when we drew 1-1 there… The Bish thundered home a penalty for us…

One of those clubs that were really irrelevant but also very annoying…

Pedro - the plastic pitch has to be replaced with grass when they got promoted to the premier league.

Re: Oldham Athletic
IIRC, it was Ipswich who did us all a massive favour and formally complained about Oldham's pitch after the home side dumped a tonne of sand on it during one key game - rendering it almost unplayable. It was bad enough that the fucking thing was plastic, but then Oldham purposefully turned it into a soggy beach for a key game - and the FA decided it had finally had enough.
